Mingshu Wang Elected Chair of the RGS-IBG GIScience Research Group

Dr Mingshu Wang has been elected Chair of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) GIScience Research Group for the new committee term.

The GIScience Research Group brings together academics and practitioners working across geographic information science, geographic data science and geospatial technologies. It promotes their development and application in geographical research, teaching and professional practice. Its activities include a GIScience webinar series, sessions at the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference, participation in GISRUK, MSc dissertation prizes and bursaries supporting early-career researchers.

The Chair role connects with Mingshu’s wider research and teaching in GIScience, GeoAI and urban analytics. His work develops geospatial methods to investigate urban systems, with particular interests in spatially informed and explainable artificial intelligence. The new role provides an opportunity to contribute this perspective to the group’s activities and support exchange across the wider GIScience community.
